USMC Reserve Birthday

August 29
|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 29 of August, repeating until August 29, 2030

From World War I through the Global War on Terrorism, and for over 100 years, the Marine Corps Reserve (also known as the United States Marine Corps Reserve or the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Reserve) has played an essential role in the Marine Corps Total Force since its creation in 1916, in conjunction with the creation of the Navy Reserve. Since then, the evolution of this force would expand from just thirty-five to today’s roughly 40 thousand Marine Corps Reservists. The Marine Corps Reserve Birthday is observed every year on the 29th of August.

Celebrating The United States Marine Corps Reserve Birthday

The Marine Corps Reserve birthday is an internal observance, with an emphasis on Marine heritage and culture. It’s not a public holiday or a widely observed date, but those who wish to honor the creation of the United States Marine Corps Reserve on its’ birthday, August 29 may consider flying the American flag and the Marine Corps flag on the anniversary.

You can consult the Marine Corps Flag Manual to learn how to properly display the Marine Reserve service flag alongside the American flag.

You can also thank a Marine Reservist for her or his service.

Another option is to consider supporting the Museum of Military History which owned and operated by Military Veterans. You can show your support in many ways:

  • by becoming a member of the Museum
  • by making a financial contribution to the museum
  • by donating or loaning a loved-one’s military memorabilia
  • by donating or loaning a loved-one’s service uniforms and/or military equipment
  • by volunteering your time at the Museum

No matter your contribution or the size of your donation, all are appreciated as it helps the Museum to continue on its mission and educate the public for generations to come.
